THE COMMISSIONER,
R. C. M. POLICE;
OTTAWA, ONTARIO.

Ottawa, Ont., May 16th, 1961.

(B.) Yellowknife,
N.W.T. Report of Strange Object
Striking Clan Lake District, N.W.T.
(YELLOWKNIFE DETACHMENT CASE)

1. Further to our exchange of correspondenceΒ and acknowledging memorandum of September 23rd, 1960,Β from the Director of Air Intelligence (L.C.Dillworth), Royal CanadianΒ Air Force; in a report dated December 19th, 1960,Β our Yellowknife Detachment advised that Mr. G. Brown,Β Geologist, Yellowknife, had volunteered his servicesΒ to carry out a magnetometer check at Clan Lake,Β however, on January 25th Yellowknife DetachmentΒ reported that Mr. Brown had to go to Morocco forΒ some seven weeks, Consequently, the magnetometerΒ check of the area had to be postponed.

2.Β We have now received a further reportΒ from Yellowknife Detachment wherein we are advisedΒ that Mr. Brown, owing to the pressure of his workΒ plus the fact that he is away a good deal of the time,Β is unable to carry out the magnetometer check asΒ planned. This means that without special equipment,Β members of our Yellowknife Detachment can do nothingΒ further on their own towards identifying the strangeΒ object.

3.Β On the 15th instant we were in touchΒ with Dr. I. HALLIDAY, Dominion Observatory, Dept. ofΒ Mines and Technical Surveys, Ottawa, giving him aΒ brief account of Mr.
REDACTED statement. Dr. HALLIDAYΒ expressed the opinion the unidentified object wouldΒ be a meteorite. He went on to say if the completeΒ picture was supplied to them, their Department mightΒ see fit to look into the matter further, should oneΒ of their field men happen to be in the YellowknifeDistrict in connection with other work. Consequently,Β you may see fit to fully apprise the Department ofΒ Mines and Technical Surveys.

J.TΒ Parsons, Insp.,
Officer I/C “G” Div. C.I.B
